Bob Olley is a South Shields artist known in particular for his paintings depicting the mining heritage of the area

Bob has kindly donated a series of paintings, which were originally commissioned by South Shields Museum and displayed during the highly successful 2022 exhibition, Pushing the Boat Out, which celebrated the importance of shipbuilding and ship repair to the riverside communities of South Shields, Jarrow and Hebburn

The donated paintings depict various shipyard trades, activities and events with Bob’s characteristic style, humour and attention to social history.

The artworks are proudly hung on display in the first-floor corridor of the museum.
