Children will have an opportunity to explore works of art relating to South Tyneside industrial and maritime history. The mezzotint print of J. M. W. Turner’s Shields, on the River Tyne, linking to the National Gallery 200 programme’s loan of Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle will be the focus and is available to be brought into schools prior to the workshop where children will find out about his cultural importance.
The workshop begins with an opportunity to handle an object and practise observation and enquiry skills. Children will then explore the exhibition and record their observations through detailed sketches, turning them into a colourful print in our art studio.
