About

This exhibition celebrates the year-long Shared Stories of South Tyneside project created in collaboration with representatives of the local British Bangladeshi community. Supported by South Shields Museum & Art Gallery, members of the local British Bangladesh community have shared their rich history through personal objects and photographs in this fascinating exhibition.

The Shared Stories group engaged with the local community, inviting them to lend their beloved objects and nostalgic photographs for the exhibition.

For decades, the British Bangladeshi community has found a home in the heart of South Shields. While their journeys may have started in other corners of the UK, drawn initially by post-war industrial opportunities, the draw of South Tyneside and its community within it was strong. Today, the community stand as a cornerstone of North East heritage, contributing vibrantly to South Tyneside's culture and economy.

Of course, there are many more stories to tell, and we would love to hear yours!
